Many hotels around the world often boast of being “central” ... “city center” ... or “close to attractions” but very few seems to actually fill that promise which most travellers seek.
Start Otel, so aptly named doesn’t fail to deliver on any of those promises and is most adequately named for such. Our journey to the hotel began with an airport transfer from Grandtransfers.com for approximately $25 USD with professional door to door service.
The check-in process was smooth and effortless with their staff speaking at least enough English to answer any queries you may have and taking luggage up to the room.
The hotel manages to offer a range of rooms from basic to more spacious doubles with balcony and city view. Not to be left out; others without a balcony still offer a good view of surrounding mountains once you’re on a high enough floor. All rooms range from $22 - $35 USD per night (double occupancy) and including free daily breakfast. Rates may vary depending on your booking website preference.
Daily buffet breakfast is the traditional Turkish style with slight variations each day to break the monotony which most hotels have if staying for an extended period. Options varied from fries, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, cheeses, hams, pastries, juices and more. The staff for breakfast is there each morning to greet guests with welcoming smiles despite the language barrier. Always a friendly group of individuals to see first thing in the morning.
One familiar face you’re likely to see on your way to breakfast or around the hotel would be the General Manager, Unal. This is one person you can always count on for any query you may need, places to visit, tips or just a friendly chat and glass of Turkish Chai. It's not a usual sight to see the General Manager of a hotel interacting with guests and this is one of the big things that sets Start Otel apart from the others.
With all the great positives inside there’s even more that awaits just outside of the main entrance!
Just out the door and to the left you’re less than 20 seconds walk to the AntRay tram stop with connects directly to the airport or the final stop in the other direction at Fatih. The fare per person is approximately 2.50TL and cards can be purchased directly at the tram stop or a close by mini market.
On the topic of markets, there’s an overwhelming array of shopping options in your “immediate” vicinity, including clothing, Turkish cuisine, jewelry, Carrefour mini supermarket, fast food, banks and souvenirs.... all within a maximum of 2 minutes walk.
Venture a little further …. <10 min walk and you are immersed in the cultural aspect of the Old Town (Kaleici). Take a relaxing stroll along the main street lined with restaurants and shops or venture through Hadrian’s Gate and be taken back in time with the historic feel of Turkey. These romantic pedestrian only streets are dotted with boutique hotels, fine dining restaurants and bars but taking you away from the crowded atmosphere just steps away.
Absolutely a memorable experience and worthwhile stroll to Old Town.
Tours can also be booked from Old Town to various top spots within Antalya from various reputable tour agencies.
Looking to do a little more shopping in the city than sightseeing?
Not to worry, Start Otel has that covered too! .... A 15 min walk in the opposite direction would take you directly to MarkAntalaya; one of the largest shopping malls in Antalya and personally one of our favorite. Five floors of affordable shopping, food and a cineplex within easy reach of the hotel. For added convenience you may also take the tram (2 stops) and exit directly at the mall as well.
There’s a never-ending list of activities that can be done from the convenience of this hotel.... along with the flow of busses that take you to various destinations including popular spots like Lara & Konyaalti.
Plan your long or short trip at the Start Ootel and see why they are the “starting point of the city”
